73rd. Golden Globe Awards 2016: Leonardo DiCaprio won Best drama actor


The 73rd Golden Globes, handed out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, are the first major film honors of the Hollywood awards season that culminates with the Oscars on Feb. 28. The ceremony was produced this year by Dick Clark Productions in association with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association at The Beverly Hilton

This year it was special,  “The Revenant” won three awards including best drama film, beating out front-runners “Carol,” a lesbian romance, and investigative journalism drama “Spotlight.” “Revenant” star Leonardo DiCaprio won best drama actor and Alejandro Inarritu was named best director. “This is the most difficult journey I’ve embarked on,” said Inarritu who last year won directing and best picture Oscars for “Birdman.”

“We struggled in low temperatures and difficult conditions to make this film happen, but we all know in this room that pain is temporary but a film is forever, so who cares? “DiCaprio, 41, who has yet to win an Oscar, received a standing ovation and said he shared his award with indigenous people around the world. “I want to share this award with all the First Nations people represented in this film and all the indigenous communities around the world,” he said during his acceptance speech, in which he gave a nod to director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, who won Best Director for his turn. “It is time that we recognize your history and that we protect your indigenous lands from corporate interests,” DiCaprio continued.

DiCaprio’ become more famous as it was eleventh nomination and third win. In 2015, DiCaprio banked $29 million to land on FORBES’ Celebrity 100 list of the World’s Highest-Paid Entertainers. Per last year’s rankings, he is the 13th Highest-Paid Actor in the world.

Denzel Washington was one of the nominated at this award. He received the Cecil B. DeMille Award, which honors extraordinary contributions to the entertainment world at the Golden Globes.

61-year old actor, director, producer, and philanthropist, he brought his family up on stage with him to accept the award, but forgot his glasses. In a brief, and apparently improvised a speech in which, he thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, his agent and manager, his first agent and manager, and his family.

Washington was introduced by Philadelphia costar Tom Hanks, who presented a reel spotlighting his work, from such critical darlings as Malcolm X and Cry Freedom to box office hits like The Pelican Brief and Remember the Titans.

This is Washington’s third award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. He won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of a boxer wrongfully convicted of murder in 1999’s The Hurricane a performance Entertainment Weekly described as a “wounding slow burn.” He previously won a Globe for his supporting role in the 1989 Civil War drama Glory, playing an escaped slave and Union Army soldier fighting in the first African-American unit. That role also earned Washington his first Academy Award. He took home Oscar gold for the second time for his turn as a corrupt cop in Antoine Fuqua’s 2001 crime thriller Training Day.

Sylvester Stallone “Rambo” received award after 39 years in the category. He is well known for his Hollywood action roles, particularly boxer Rocky Balboa, which is the title character of the Rocky series’ films from 1976 to 2015. Rambo won The Best supporting actor award. He got a standing ovation for his win. “Most of all, I want to thank my imaginary friend rocky Balboa for being the best friend I ever had. “The last time I was at the Globes was in 1977 and I was hit by tumbleweed – and the view is so beautiful now” he said.

The Golden Globe Award is known as American accolade bestowed by the 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) recognizing excellence in film and television, both domestic and foreign. The 1st Golden Globe Award  honored the best achievements in 1943 filmmaking, were held late in January 1944,,  Is composed by a group of writers banded together to form the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and by creating a generously distributed award called the Golden Globe Award, they now play a significant role in film marketing all over the word.
