Letter from The Publisher:The Pitch is coming again: Don’t miss it.

By Rubens Mukunzi

Last year, one of my best friends told me about the “The Pitch”, a minority- and women-owned business competition. Even if I di qualified for it, I was not sure that I could win; I applied feeling like I was just going to participate. I didn’t even think that anybody would appreciate my business model.

When Karibu News was selected in the finals, I and my team set down and prepared a short presentation. I was glad that even if I couldn’t win, people would at least understand what I was doing with my business.

Last October, during the day of the pitch, I was committed and passionate to tell people about the impact of Karibu News in the community. Talking about our businesses is about in five minutes and facing seven judges asking though questions was not easy at all for any of three of the finalists, Karibu News, Urban Fruits and Veggies, and Rachel’s Remedy. And finally, the judges declared Karibu News as the $10,000 grand prize winner of The Pitch. I was surprised, but so excited and proud to be the winner of this competition.

By winning The Pitch, I was able to grow my business and helped Karibu News to make build connections and network and, even today, we are working to expand our business for the future.

This year, organized by 43 North, in collaboration with other sponsors, The Pitch is coming back again with $50,000. Don’t miss this, come and learn how to pitch your business and be able to meet other business funders. Come and enjoy an evening connecting with entrepreneurs, an entertaining business pitch competition featuring a musical opening, the finalist business pitches, a Biz TedTalk by owners of ASHTAE Products featured on the CNBC show, The Profit.  And finally, end the evening with an energetic networking reception with delicious hors d’oeuvres, drinks and musical entertainment.

I invite you all to come and wish success to all competitors!
